The first steps as a new mother, The hands of a new father, The legs of a new being (and that tooshie 🥰) So many births took place this day, including the birth of a family. Words could never fully describe labor, but I am beyond grateful for my team of support that led me through the labyrinth: my hubby @charlesrsmith that had the hard task of not being able to take away the intensity of the experience, the dream team @lamidwifecollective that ensured our babe was safe and healthy while we had a dream water birth at home, and my friend, doula and the one that captured the shot @ccmeyer . She’s an angel in disguise. This night was filled with so much raw emotion, primitive functioning, and practical magic for what women are capable of. The strength, determination, focus and surrender that is required to birth a child is a recipe for transcendence as well as a complete miracle. I had the full range of the human experience bundled up in seven hours topped with the ecstasy of our first meeting. Her name is Plum Ophelia, she took her first breath on June 24 at 6:01 am. She was plump, perfect and primed to be with us. We’re madly in love. 🥰 Oh and in case you counted, she was conceived when Hamlet passed (hence Ophelia) and cooked for a complete nine moon cycles. It’s the circle of life.
With the angel herself, @ccmeyer, and a clip from the new video by @candthemoon when the wee one was still wombed. Her body scrub is bomb, her doula skills are otherworldly, and her support and care for all woman is a thing of beauty. We are obsessed 🥰
One year ago today we committed to love each other until the grave, at the grave, and I couldn’t be more proud of the people we are becoming. To know that love heals all wounds is an understatement. Love is the fabric of life, connection, compassion and understanding. Happy one year to me and my imperfectly perfect hubby @charlesrsmith. We are weaving another being into this fabric of reality and as she solidifies in her form, our hearts are expanding in love to welcome our little one. I am reminded to tell her this world is one built on love since we built her world on love. First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes ..... 🥰 👶 🥰
Words cannot describe the love I feel when I look into those eyes ❤️ A feeling that I want to perpetuate beyond time and is nonexistent in the mental mind.
“With art comes empathy. It allows us to look through someone else’s eyes and know their strivings and struggles. It expands the moral imagination and makes it impossible to accept the dehumanization of others. When we are without art, we are a diminished people - myopic, unlearned, and cruel.” — Dave Eggers
